US Tour 2019
In September 2019, OUEC embarked on an adventure across the pond to the east coast of the US!
We had the most incredible time with four days of training booked in at Cornell and Dartmouth Universities before putting all we had learnt into practice at Dartmouth Invitational Competition. The competition format was unlike anything we had ever experienced. The flat portion consists of about 5 people riding in the ring and the judge calling out movements we had to do. This means that you have to be very alert and have the horse incredibly responsive as any second you could be asked to halt, canter or anything else. Then we also went around a jumping course and were judged on our style. We competed against teams from Dartmouth, University of New Hampshire and Colby-Sawyer. All our riders did amazingly well considering how we had to get used to a completely new way of riding. In Open section A Susie came 4th (highest oxford score) with Harriet coming 5th. In Open section B Ellen came 3rd (highest placed oxford rider) with Amy coming 4th. In the intermediate section A Jasmine came 4th and Emily 6th. In intermediate section B Maddie came 4th. It was a massive achievement for all riders and we are all very proud. Thank you to Dartmouth and Cornell for their amazing hospitality! We also got to try out western riding which was so much fun. We also got to do some sightseeing in New York and Boston which was unforgettable. The hugest thanks must go to all those that participated in the raffle as well as our private donors, without whom this tour would not have been financially possible. Also to Just Togs Equestrian and Roeckl Equestrian for providing show shirts , jumpers and gloves. |
